I would like to bring to your attention the formation of a Steering Committee
of tenants effected by Lewisham Councils plans to revise Estate Action
on the Pepys Estate, Deptford, London SE8.
In early January 2000 all tenants and residents in Aragon Tower, Millard,
Marlowe, Barfleur, Limberg and Dolben House; were leafleted to attend
a Public Meeting on Monday 10th January 2000, at 7.30pm, in the Daubeny
Meeting Room, Bowditch.
This meeting endorsed the election of ten tenants and residents from the
blocks effected to form a Steering Committee. The Steering Committee
them met on Monday 17th January 2000 with the initial purpose of draughting
this letter.
The last consultation with tenants and residents on Pepys effected by
Lewishams' plans to revise Estate Action was in June 1999, with Lynne
Clements, the then Neighbourhood Manager.
Since then the only information tenants and residents have received has
been through the 'Save Our Homes' campaign, or by rumour.
With the formation of the Steering Committee for all tenants and residents
of the blocks effected, we now demand the right to know what is happening
on the Estate. Together with detailed consultation and the opportunity
to be involved in decisions that effect our homes and our lives.
In the recent past we have made representations to the Neighbourhood Office,
Lewisham Housing, the Council Leader and Mayor of Lewisham, the local
MP, and the Secretary of State.
We now wish our representatives from the blocks effected to be listened
to.
We invite the Director of Lewisham Housing, the Project Manager, the Neighbourhood
Manager, to a meeting in Daubeny Meeting Room, on Monday 7th February
2000 at 7.30pm.
The agenda will be to make a meeting point between tenants and residents
and Lewisham Council.
