Candidate are able to follow a course specialising in Product Design giving them opportunities to study, propose and realise prototype solutions to designing and making opportunities closely linked to the real world of product/system manufacture.
AS candidates take Units 1, 2, 3.
A2 candidates take Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Coursework requirements :-
AS - 2 pieces of coursework Unit 1 - Case Study
Candidates produce a case study based on the investigation of a system.
Unit 2 - Product Study
Candidates produce a project based on the study of a product.
A2 - As above with one further piece of Unit 4 - Designing coursework.
Development of a design with relevant research and analysis of a product need or problem.
Unit 5 - Making and Evaluatiing
The outcome of Unit 4 is the making, testing and evaluation of the solution; which forms Unit 5.
Written examination :
AS - Unit 3 of 2 hours duration.
A2 - As above with Unit 6 of 2 hours and 30 minutes duration.
