Unit 2 - ( G2 ) Product development 1.
Simple guide
Aim : To produce an individual product design and manufacturing, based
on a context decided by the student.
Implementation : Purpose
This unit is the design and make assignment for the AS examination.
Students select their own context, from which they design and manufacture a product that meets the original context/need.
It is envisaged that students will apply knowledge and understanding from other units in order to enhance their design and make activity.
Design work to be presented in an A3 or A2 format.
Implementation : Assessment
Product development 1 is a full coursework project. Students develop their own project with teacher guidance.
This unit results in the development of a product supported by a design folder.
Unit 2 is internally marked - using the assessment grid below - and externally moderated by Edexcel, using a specified coursework project sample.
All coursework project annotation should indicate where the marks for each assessment criterion have been awarded.
Centres submit a Coursework Assessment Booklet ( CAB ) for each student.
Each CAB should include photographic evidence of the product.
All Coursework Assessment Booklets are submitted to and retained by Edexcel.
Implementation : Assessment grid
Each student's coursework marks must be recorded in a Coursework Assessment Booklet.
Each coursework project will be marked out of a total of 100 marks.
Criteria Level of response Mark range
