17th March 2002

Dear Elected Mayor for London, Mr Kenneth Livingstone,

On behalf of the Steering Committee ( TAG ) I enclose a copy of 'Study, Community planning and social management of housing' - compiled by Malcolm Cadman, March 2002.

( Some of the appendices not included as they require scanning ).

Please refer to our previous submission by letter of 11th March 2002 -

"We wish to bring to your attention our strong objection to the London Borough of Lewishams' proposal for the disposal of Aragon Tower to a private landlord from the existing social housing provision on the Pepys Estate, Deptford, SE8; and the demolition of five low rise blocks - Limberg House, Dolben Court, Barfleur House, Marlowe House and Millard House - and sale of the land to Hyde Housing Association for new build flats under new tenancies. In addition the repurchase of properties sold under the Right to Buy ( RTB )."

We are very pleased with what we have been able to achieve with the Get Set Community Chest funding in such a short period of time, and under such intense pressure.

We would like the opportunity to present our project to yourselves. We envisge further stages of work are required to meet our original objective of community planning and social management. We have asked Lewisham Council for a Review of their process so that we can work together - they have rejected the request.

We believe that the Alternative Vision would cost only a 1/3 to 1/2 of that of the Council's proposal, thus saving public money. As well as lead to a solution that retains the existing community, the best features of the existing buildings with the embeddied energy. In addition the community benefit of a childcare / creche centre, and entensive environmental improvement.

Yours sincerely

Malcolm Cadman, Secretary TAG
