A local person ... not a Politician
to Bring back Trust
Vote - X - for Malcolm on May 6th
PROFILE
I have made my home on the Pepys estate in the Evelyn Ward, Deptford, for the last 30 Years. I have worked as a Teacher, in Secondary Schools for over 38 Years.I am standing as a local Councillor as a local person who can make a difference. I am not a politician.
I believe that we – that is you and me – can make a Change by giving back Local Responsibility to Local People who care.
We all know that the Banking system has let us all down, “they” have made a lot of money; and yet, we, the people have now bailed them out with Government money, when things “went wrong” … and we, the people, know that we will still have to pay; again and again in our future taxes.
Those “at the top” of our society now earn up to 200 times the average national wage - a ratio for the top earners that has increased hugely only in the last 20 to 30 Years ( before then, it used to be from 10 to 20 times the average ).
We have been at fault, too, for taking our eye off what those who we have elected in the past get up to - yet we can now make a change. Housing should be aimed at building homes – not “units”. Councils should be allowed; once again, to build Council Houses, or, better still, the local Community should build and let, its own Community Homes. The Homeless waiting list in Lewisham is over 17,000 people – with most people on the list wanting genuine lifetime homes.
North Deptford is faced with massive “regeneration” projects, led by private sector developers – principally aimed at introducing a new and better off person to the area; and doubling the population! In what is already a higher dense, mainly social rented, area.

LOCAL ISSUES IN NORTH DEPTFORD
Deptford people need real homes to live in - of outstanding quality – not “Units” just to meet government targets and developer profits.Deptford people actually like living where they are - and do not want to be “regenerated” - by being taken over by other, more wealthy people, moving into the area; and then forcing the original Deptford people out of the area – a process known as “gentrification”.
Deptford needs its identity back - in the 1960’s Deptford and Lewisham were put together … now we want our identity back !
Deptford High street is one of the best High streets in London, because it never got “re-planned”, let us keep it that way and built it up as an even more thriving centre; celebrating history and culture.
Say No to “CPZ’s” in North Deptford (Controlled Parking Zones) taking over all our streets to then make a profit to the Council.
There is a better way to manage, with care, the movement needs of all - pedestrian, cycle and vehicular traffic – end one way streets and restore two way traffic for a human experience where people are not “herded” by barriers. Say No to “Road humps”. !
Let us make a Council who listens to our voice – the real voice of the real people – not a Council which always follows a “party line”.
For too long, Lewisham Council, has pretended to seek our opinion when it decides to embark on a new project. Then it carries on regardless of what we want. Why is it deaf to our objectives ?

Congratulations on your very creditable effort in the Mayoral election and also on the performance of the People Before Profit Candidates.
You ran a highly organised and very professional campaign and obviously had a lot of people to actively help you.
I think that the more people who paticipate in our elections the better it is for our democracy.
Clearly the Labour Party has benefitted from an unpredicted surge of support right across London and no individual candidate or local campaign can take credit for winning particular seats.
Lewisham People Before Profit Candidates, at the local Elections in Lewisham May 2010, were able to secure 16,836 votes across Borough as a whole.

London Tenants Federation![]()
The London Tenants Federation ( LTF ) is an umbrella organisation bringing together London borough wide council tenant federation / organisations.
It does not supercede its member organisations, but instead aims to strengthen them through - sharing and exchanging information, making shared responses to consultation and at times campaigning together.
I have been involved with the LTF over the last several years, and I act as the Lewisham Representative for the North of the Borough.
