Students are able to follow a course specialising in Product Design with seperate pathways in both Resistant Materials Technology and Graphics with Materials Technology. Both provide an opportunity to develop creativity, capability and entrepreneurial skills, to apply knowledge and understanding to a range of technological activities and to develop crtitical thinking and collaborative skills.
AS students take Units 1, 2, 3 - first three Units only.
A2 students take Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 - all Units taken.
Coursework requirements :-
AS - 1 piece of coursework Unit 2 - Product Development 1
Students develop their own project, with teacher guidance. Resulting in the development of a product supported by a design folder of A3 or A2 size.
Project is teacher marked and externally moderated, using a specified coursework sample. Coursework Assessment Booklet. ( CAB ) for each candidate.
A2 - As above with one further piece of Unit 5 - Product Development 2 coursework. Students develop their own project, with teacher guidance. Resulting in the development of a product supported by a design folder of A3 or A2 size. Coursework Assessment Booklet ( CAB ) for each candidate. Quality expected to be higher than for AS Unit 2.
Written examination :
AS - Unit 1 of 1 hour and 30 minutes duration, and Unit 3 of 1 hour and 30 minutes duration.
A2 - As above with Unit 4 of 1 hour and 30 minutes duration, and Unit 6 of 3 hours duration.
