7th September 2001
I represent TAG - ( The Action Group ),
The group was formed in January 2000 to oppose Lewisham Councils plans
to divert Estate Action on Pepys from Aragon Tower, and the low rise blocks
of Limberg, Dolben, Barfleur, Marlowe and Millard.
The committee was formed with twelve elected members, that have met regularly
every 2 weeks in the first year of 2000; and now meets once a month.
All committee members actually live in the blocks effected, or close by
on Pepys estate.
TAG was recognised by the Pepys Neighbourhood Committee in April 2000,
and has regularly attended Neighbourhood meetings since then.
TAG has a constitution from November 2000, and receives a small amount
of funding per tenancy unit from the Lewisham Tenants Fund as a Tenants
and Residents Association ( TARA ). It has its own bank account.
TAG would like the Estate Action on Pepys to be completed, with the real
involvement of the people concerned. This has not happened with the manner
in which Lewisham has conducted their consultation.
TAG believes that refurbishment would perserve very important architecture
and urban planning here on Pepys by the former GLC in the 1960's.
TAG had led the objections to the demolish and rebuild proposals by Hyde
Housing at Lewisham Planning meetings.
1 - Provide an overview of the area to help built environment community
planning.
2 - Provide an historical record as the 20th Century moves into the 21st
Century.
3 - Provide a focus and discussion point.
1 - Investigate suitable scale, features, and level of detail, etc.
2 - Investigate a commission for a suitably skilled person(s).
3 - Investigate use of volunteers to assist (2) above.
1 - TAG has no premises to store a model, it will therefore loan the model
to PCF to store or permanently display.
2 - The model can be available for community events.
